The Collab Projekt

Vinnie Paz - The Oracle (Prod. by DJ Premier)

Raw track from Jedi Mind Tricks’ head honcho Vinnie Paz. Premo laces a mean beat and the Pazmanian Devil proceeds to pummel it. The Oracle will be on his October 22nd release ‘God of the Serengeti’. It’s been a minute since I’ve listened to any of the Jedi Mind albums. Matter of fact, I’m gonna listen to ‘Violent By Design’ tonight. Found this on YouTube, peep the album in full there.

Clear Soul Forces - Won Too feat. Brogainz [Prod. by Ilajide]
Upon reaching one million views on the video for their ‘Detroit Revolution(s)’ single Get No Better, the Detroit crew drops this track and boy does it deliver. Won Too is full of lyricism at a level I haven’t yet heard from CSF. I will probably be listening to this on repeat for a good chunk of this week.
We recently chopped it up with Clear Soul Forces, so keep your eyes peeled for that interview dropping soon. These guys really are making some of my favorite hip-hop right now.

Lightfoot - The Rudimentals [Instrumental Album]
A very atmospheric release from producer Lightfoot comes with some super dope album art. I love the Lightfoot logo; the MPC idea is perfectly executed. This is his debut exclusively instrumental album. Check out these creative visuals for the track Boom Bap Rap, an awesome animation done by Caroline Torres. Really digging the versatility on the album, stream it below and cop it from the iTunes store.

Versis & Bagir-Ba - Barista [EP]
Versis straight up makes dope music, with dope people! You’ll see his name floating around with the likes of Blu and ScienZe (two of my favorite artists currently). Definitely check out his last album ‘iLLCANDESCENT’, Versis is just too damn smoov. The nonchalant lyricist teams up with Brooklyn producer Bagir-Ba to create even more dope music in the form of a 3-track EP. Support independent tunes and replace tonight’s munchie trip to 7/11 with the $3 download.

An album ten dollars You act like it’s ten g’s This food for thought cost the same as 2 number three’s

Phony Ppl - NothinG Special. [EP]
‘Phonyland’, the last project by diverse mega-group Phony Ppl had some of the most catchy, smooth music I heard this year. The Brooklyn crew is back for more, crooning through a new seven-track EP. Check the project below.

Chuuwee - Chez! [Mixtape]
Recent Amalgam Digital signee Chuuwee drops this tape to hold fans over until the release of his debut album ‘Wild Style’ later this year. Chez’s last project, ‘Crown Me King’, became one of my favorites of 2012 and proved that the Sacramento rapper has lyrics for days and a keen musical intuition. With a sharp, elastic flow that can navigate any instrumental, Chuuwee has some of the best storytelling ability out right now.

Black EL x Durkin - DOJA
EL and Durk are back at it with this trippy single. The producer-rapper duo have been holding it down for the city of Boston for a while and are a constant reminder of its talent-level and creativity. Can’t stop spinning this track, the vibe is perfect for relaxing after a long days work. Durkin continues to impress me as a producer, there are so many layers to this track and it never stops moving. Black EL’s wordplay comes through strong as usual; he has a way of repeating a phrase but giving it completely different meaning by changing his emphasis on syllables.

“They runner’s up cause their run is up”

If you haven’t seen the recent cypher Black EL (and everyone else) murders, find fifteen minutes out of your day and peep. You will thank me.

Zero - Thank You [Video]

Good Karma Gang member Zero drops bars over the Shady 2.0 Cypher instrumental, which got Slaughtered the first time around. Anyone taking on a beat like this has to come with the heat, and Zero did just that. This guy is clever as hell, his flow has Zero cracks in it and the multis are dope. SaveOurSouls behind the camera provides clean visuals with some slick editing. The more I get to know the Good Karma Gang, the more their name makes sense; they’re just great people with a true vision.

ScienZe & King I Divine - Hero [Video]

Been waiting on this one for a while. One of my favorite songs off one of my favorite projects of the year just came to life a la Music Video. ScienZe is an incredibly inspiring rapper. The positivity he breathes onto tracks help paint the bigger pictures of life, forcing the listener to step back and really see through another perspective. The Brooklynite paired up with ATL producer King I Divine earlier this year to craft an album-quality mixtape in ‘Divine ScienZe’.

By far the hypest track on the project, Hero is all about getting out there and chasing your dreams while putting on for your origins. Brooklyn gets a crazy detailed lyrical description through the audio, and the video enhances the feel tenfold. Filtered visuals of New York really contribute to that boom-bap vibe. The word play on this track is bonkers, find me someone that dislikes it.

This project really is better than most albums that have come out in the last few years. The best part is that it’s FREE. Zero dollars. $5 less than a Subway footlong. Literally no money. A couple clicks is all it takes to enjoy this gift a project. So buy that sub and press play, guarantee it won’t be the first time you do.
