#12for12 ON-AIR Cypher (WERS | 88.9FM Boston)

What would you say if I told you twelve of Boston’s most talented and dedicated hip-hop artists took over the airwaves on October 23rd for a live on air cypher? Well, it happened. As our followers might know, The Collab Projekt and The Fresh Heir started an artistic movement in Boston in which we’ve united TWELVE of the best hip-hop artists in Boston in order to cultivate an artist community and create a web of support.

If you’ve got a couple of minutes to spend listening to some dope raps, press play up above and expose yourself to some of Boston’s best.

My favorite verses?

- Charmingly Ghetto

- Alage

- Avenue

Enjoy!

#12For12 is a positive hip-hop movement based in Boston aimed at encouraging unity and solidarity within the city and providing a new platform for artists to showcase their talents.

There is an incredibly powerful wave of young artists rapidly rising in Boston, and the group is redefining whatever image of the city’s scene people have instilled in their minds.

Two Boston-based hip-hop blogs - The Fresh Heir and The Collab Projekt - wanted to bring this (r)evolution to life, so the #12For12 movement began. #12For12 is centered on 12 artists in Boston, but the vision goes far beyond any limited number.

The Boston Backyard Cypher took place on June 14th and was the second official event of the summer. Unlike the first cypher that took place in the Green Street Jungle Pop-Up Shop on Newbury Street, this cypher was open to the public so that more people would have the opportunity to understand what #12For12 is all about.

Five of the artists featured in this video - D-Note, Reem, Bigg Dee, Caliph and Black EL - are part of the official #12For12 lineup, but the rest are part of the greater movement and are intertwined with hip-hop in the city in essential ways.

Special thanks to Decriminals for putting the video together, GreenStVault for supporting the movement and DJ Goulet for DJ-ing the evening’s events.

Stay tuned for more videos from the Boston Backyard Cypher as well as much more to come out of the #12For12 movement the remainder of the year.

#12For12 #Boston Cypher Video @ The Green Street Jungle

At the 11:24 mark, Casso starts with, “Yo by the way, stop sleepin’ on my city.” For one reason or another, Boston hip-hop has been… well, slept on - at least in recent years.

Some simply assume there aren’t any good rappers in Beantown. Some say they all sound alike. Some say there’s nothing but hate in the city - that no one’s ever going to make an impact on a national level because they can’t even gain support from their own.

The truth is - those statements couldn’t be any further from the truth, and the #12For12 movement is here to prove that.

The goal is to fuel unity and support within the city of Boston and put the world on to the talent and energy coming out of one of the greatest cities around.

This cypher took place at the official #12For12 launch event at the Green Street Jungle - a pop-up shop hosted by Green Street Vault and Annie Mulz on Newbury Street in Boston on June 9th.

The video was put together by Decriminals, a Boston-based production company that will be working on the #12For12 project along with The Fresh Heir and The Collab Projekt for the entirety of the summer and the rest of the year. Stay tuned.

HUGE thanks to @GreenStVault and @AnnieMulz - two incredibly innovative, supportive companies that were started by college students in Boston within the past couple of years.

The movement will only continue to grow.

#12For12 - The Boston Hip-Hop Unity Movement

I’m not even going to come on here and lie. I’m not going to pretend like I haven’t been slacking on the actual blog. I’d never sit here and lie to your face. YOU - the reader - you’re the reason why The Collab Projekt does everything we do.

Recently, we haven’t been providing you with the daily updates on new music anymore because honestly, we know that even though you rock with us for our hip-hop updates, we’re not your top choice when it comes to “the newest releases in hip-hop”, but we stay alive because we are still ONE of your choices. We’ve got a bunch of followers on many different mediums, and one thing we’ve gathered from those who have provided feedback - T.C.P. knows a bunch of hidden gems that people need to be put on to.

I’m writing this post because as the Founder of The Collab Projekt, I’d never want you think that we forgot about you. We haven’t. Even though we haven’t been posting hip-hop, our team has been out and about living it. From my trip to California for Paid Dues and meeting with my favorite up-and-coming rapper from L.A., Radio; to our involvement with The Fresh Heir and Boston’s buzzing hip-hop scene, we’ve been creating opportunities and experiences for ourselves and our followers.

As promised, The Collab Projekt will continue to put you on to artists you may have never heard of. And to enhance the reading experience for you, I am pushing the writers to go out and maximize their living experiences in the topics they want to cover.

The above photoset was created during our #12For12 Launch Event. For those who don’t know, for months now, The Collab Projekt and The Fresh Heir have been meeting and organizing a unity project intended to bring together the Boston hip-hop scene and create a web of support. We’ve chosen twelve artists from the city of Boston who are well-developed and dedicated to a career in music and we will be working with these twelve artists throughout the summer to create opportunities for everyone in this city - everyone who is interested in being involved in the exposure of Boston’s hip-hop scene.

This post is intended to apologize and explain our lack of posts lately; fill our followers in on #12For12; and get you guys ready for a nice 15-minute long video that will be dropping this week, a video that will definitely open your eyes and attract attention to the city of Boston.

Thank you all for continuing to rock with us. Honestly, we do this for YOU.
