The Collab Projekt’s Hip-Hop Update
Past midnight, but it’s a new week which means we need some new hip-hop for the Update. Check out this week’s update, featuring two new mixtapes worth checking out and our regular 8Tracks Playlist. Enjoy fam!

Uno Hype x DJ Black Diamond - ’Fxck The Hype’ (MIXTAPE)
I was camping on the Google Reader when I came across this fresh tape from Uno Hype, an 18-year-old emcee hailing from Maryland. The 9-track EP serves as a sequel to Hype’s debut mixtape, ‘Ready For Takeoff’. This is the first I hear of Uno Hype, and I admit, the Joey BadA$$, Smoke DZA & Tayyib Ali features caught my eye, but I’m feeling this. Only two tapes in and a couple thousand followers, Uno Hype’s future looks bright and his sounds tight. Definitely check out ‘Fxck The Hype’.
DOWNLOAD: Uno Hype -‘Fxck The Hype’

Jon Connor - ‘The People’s Rapper LP’
Michigan’s own, Jon Connor, released ‘The People’s Rapper LP’, the latest installment in his “Best In The World” series. The 16-track LP pays homage to one of Detroit’s finest, Eminem, and has Jon Connor & guests rapping over some of Shady’s most famous instrumentals. Connor already did this once with ‘The Blue Album’, but I commend him for going hard over most of these beats, even though he got caught in Shady’s flow on some of them.

Last but not least, 28 minutes of dope hip-hop vibes.

I might be biased, but 2012 is looking like a promising year for hip-hop. Each week’s Hip-Hop Update has brought you some dope mixtapes to check out, and it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t keep it going this week. Down below you’ve got mixtapes from both a Cali rookie and a Cali veteran, as well as the regular 8Tracks Playlist. Download. Playlist. Enjoy.

Just a couple of days after dropping his latest project, ‘California Republic’, on fans, The Game teamed up with DJ Skee and released the NO DJ version of ‘California Republic’. This tape is exactly what you’d expect from The Game at this stage in his career - a feature-heavy mixtape filled with all kinds of vibes, yet the same old Game, killin’ it. I’ve always hated on Game for being a name dropper, but his talents can’t be denied. 24 tracks on this one, with features from Pharrell, Snoop Dogg, Drake, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, French Montana, DJ Khaled, Nipsey Hu$$le, Trey Songz and many more names. This one’s one of those you should pick up cause you’ll definitely enjoy some of the tracks on it, maybe even all.
DOWNLOAD: The Game - ‘California Republic’

Young Veggies, the California up-and-comer, dropped the third installment is his ‘Customized Greatly’ mixtape series and the word is: “This shit bumps!” This one isn’t as feature laden as ‘California Republic’ but Casey Veggies is still on the rise and all he’s got to worry about right now is his talent. Regardless, Casey did recruit Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler The Creator, Hodgy Beats & Domo Genesis of Odd Future for PNCINTLOFWGKTA.

The Collab Projekt’s Hip-Hop Update
Check out this week’s Hip-Hop Update, featuring a debut from the JET life camp, some lyrical bliss from a Miami emcee, and as always, a dope 8Tracks Playlist for you to bump. I must say, hip-hop is the best love. High quality music keeps circulating every day. Stay up!

If people really fuck with Curren$y & the JETS, they definitely know Young Roddy’s name. After rocking next to Spitta Andretti for so long, Young Roddy finally dropped his highly anticipated debut mixtape, ‘Good Sense’. The youngest JETsetter kept it exclusive on this one, with features only coming from his camp - Trademark, Nesby Phips, Smoke DZA & Curren$y. Successful stoner vibes on this one, no doubt about that.

QuEst, the Miami native has been on my radar for a long time and I must say I’m a huge fan of his lyrical ability and flow. Also, his messages and demeanor is hella’ motivating. This project comes with a heavy EDM influence, and I like it. There’s also some noteable features from Logic and Mickey Factz. Check out ‘Fear Not Failure’ and Never Ever Accept The Obscene (#NEATO)

The Collab Projekt’s Hip-Hop Update
Midterm time and the living ain’t easy. I got a little backed up on time today but I can’t leave the fam without an update this week. Short and sweet, but like always you’ve got two mixtapes to check out and an 8Tracks playlist to get you by on your travels tomorrow. Stay up!

Mac Miller dropped his ‘Macadelic’ tape on the world last Friday and the people’s response has been positive. Mac keeps moving forward, experimenting and evolving as an artist, and I fuck with that. There are some great features on this one, both on the verses and the beats. You’ve got guest verses from Kendrick, Sir Michael Rocks, Casey Veggies, Joey Bada$$, Lil’ Wayne, Juicy J and Iman Omari. Production credits go to ID Labs, Clams Casino, Lex Luger, Teddy Roxpin and more. Overall, this is a great tape. It’s too early for me to say, but this is feeling like the 2nd best product Mac’s put out yet, behind ‘K.I.D.S.’
DOWNLOAD: Mac Miller - ‘Macadelic’ (MIXTAPE)

Mickey Factz has always been an interesting persona to me. I’ve been following his music for a couple years now but in the recent months he had been extremely mute. He’s back with a hell of a project though. The artist & producer presented ended his silence with ‘Mickey Mause’, a unique concept mixtape which is intended to serve as the soundtrack to ‘Mickey Mause’, a street artist character he creates throughout the 18 tracks. No features on this one, just Mickey Factz.

Shiiit, your boy is on the way down to Miami for a couple days of Spring Break, but you know I’d never leave the fam without an update. Because I’m writing this from O’Hare Airport during my layover, it’s going to be short and sweet, but the music won’t disappoint, that I promise. You know the drill: Download. Playlist. Enjoy.

I’m to kick it off with some good vibes coming out of New York. I’ve featured ScienZe multiple times on T.C.P. and he’s actually a regular on the Weekly Update’s playlists, but this time I’m featuring his latest mixtape - a collaborative mixtape with King I Divine - and just as the title states, this is some ‘Divine ScienZe’. The thirteen track tape brings nothing but good vibes, real lyricism, shit you can relate to, and art (not rap). The producer / MC combo invited a couple under the radar features that bump, like QuEst, Sene, Blu, Maffew Ragazino, D.Julien and a couple vocalists. If you’re looking for good vibes, here’s the download link.

Next up we’ve got a 21-year-old Boston MC Aziz making noise and paying tribute with his ‘Twenty One’ mixtape. He describes it best:

“21 Beats. 21 Producers. 21 Years. 1 Journey Through Hip Hop.” Hip Hop artist Aziz releases his mixtape titled “TwentyOne,” a retrospective look at the last 21 years of his Life and Hip Hop, infused with a fresh new voice.”

I’ve been fucking with Aziz on a lighter note for a minute now but this project is the best I’ve heard from him yet. I love the creativity and concept with this one and I agree with most, this isn’t a project that should be slept on. New school MCs going over old school vibes isn’t anything new, but an MC doing it right is always refreshing.

The Collab Projekt’s Wednesday Hip-Hop Update
It’s the high point of everyone’s week and I’m highed up right now listening to some great music, per usual. This week brought some more great releases in hip-hop so scroll down and download, playlist, and enjoy.

Big K.R.I.T. - ‘4EvaNaDay’ (Mixtape)
The Mississippi kid made another imprint in the game with his latest project, ‘4evaNaDay’. K.R.I.T. dropped his highly anticipated mixtape two days ago and response has been nothing but positive. Words can’t explain how excited I am that The Collab Projekt & The Fresh Heir will be in attendance for the official release party in New York tomorrow. K.R.I.T. gives fans seventeen tracks of nothing but crisp Southern sound on this mixtape; definitely a must have. And it’s $Free.99.

Kembe X & Alex Wiley - ‘Can I Borrow A Dollar?
Chicago natives Kembe X & Alex Wiley hit the blogs hard with this ‘Can I Borrow A Dollar’ project this past week. The two up-and-comers have been making noise with a unique sound coming from both and this short 6-track EP features both of them over some good production, so all in all this sounds great. According to many, Kembe X is next up so definitely keep an eye on him.

The Update
Another day, another dollar. It’s the high point of the week and hip-hop had a couple great releases this week. I’m hella excited that we’re getting closer and closer to the spring but this week’s update keeps with consistency. You know the drill: Download. Playlist. Enjoy.

Hodgy Beats - ‘Untitled EP’ (Mixtape)
Odd Future’s Hodgy Beats dropped an Untitled EP with no previous warning this past weekend, and this one is far from disappointing. Some people haven’t been able to appreciate Hodgy’s sound, but this project will definitely turn some heads. With production from Juicy J, Alchemist, Flying Lotus, Thelonius Martin and more, Hodgy flows hard and showcases his talents and growth as an artist on this mixtape. It’s good to hear some new music from the O.F. camp and I hope Mellowhype’s ‘Numbers’ release later this year bumps harder than this one and keeps the momentum going even further for these cats.

DOWNLOAD: Hodgy Beats - ‘Untitled EP’

Ski Beatz - ‘Blu Tops’ (EP)
Here’s another freEP that came out of nowhere. Ski Beatz released a 5-track project featuring Cam’ron and Vado on the verses, McKenzie Eddy on the vocals, and Ski on the beats. This one’s short and sweet; definitely one you want to have playing in your music library.

The Collab Projekt’s Wednesday Hip-Hop Update
It’s the best time of the week. It’s Wednesday and it’s the high point of the week for new hip-hop. Two dope mixtapes on this one and per usual, an 8Tracks playlist to keep you going. You already know the drill: Download. Playlist. Enjoy.

M.i. - ‘The Coldplay Sessions’
I’m going to kick it off with a creatively awesome project. Austin MC/producer M.i. dropped his latest offering ‘The Coldplay Sessions’ to wide acclaim on the blogs this week. I had never heard of M.i. and this his first feature on T.C.P. but damn! I’m messing with this tape. As a huge fan of Coldplay, seeing M.i. incorporate some of their best tracks as samples makes my ears hella’ happy. Don’t expect the hardest rap on this one, but do expect some smooth melodies and great vibes. You’ve got LQ, Lady A and Brooklyn favorite ScienZe on the guest features.

Prodigy - ‘H.N.I.C. 3’
Prodigy, one half of Mobb Deep, dropped his the his ‘H.N.I.C. 3’ mixtape yesterday on Complex Mag. The 11-track mixtape brings that New York feel everyone loves and frequently calls “dead”. If you think that “real hip-hop” is dead cause people aren’t rapping about the trap or the streets anymore, hit the download button. The tape features Havoc, Waka Flocka, Cory Gunz, French Montana, Estelle and Lady Luck.

The Collab Projekt’s Wednesday Hip-Hop Update
Best time of the week. Not only are we half way through another week, and two days away from the weekend, we’ve got a ton of quality hip-hop that dropped this week. You know the drill: Download. Playlist. Enjoy.

Jon Connor, the hot spitta’ respresenting Flint, Michigan got a bit creative on his recent release and went in over some classic instrumentals from Jay-Z’s ‘Blueprint’ album series. Hosted by DJ Green Lantern, Jon Connor’s follow up to ‘Season 2’ is quality shit, filled with real struggles and clever lyricism. Also, those ‘Blueprint’ beats are always refreshing. Not too many guest features on this 15-track tape so if you’ve never heard Jon Connor’s music before, this is a good first impression over some timeless classics.

Our DMV fam, KAM Royal dropped his third mixtape titled ‘Quit Your Day Job’. Last time we talked to KAM, he said he was working to carve out his own KAM Royal sound, something that would set him apart. Upon pressing play, you hear something different in his flow; he’s hungrier than he’s ever been on this tape. The tracks on ‘Quit Your Day Job’ also stray from his traditional upbeat and catchy songs and give off a more serious vibe; something good for KAM as he continues to develop as an artist and reach more ears. This tape is feature free, so cop the free download and let the DMV native showcase his talents through your speakers.
